What is Piers Morgan thinking here?

I know she's a lesbian, but I don't care, I want this to get weird; or, I don't know she's a lesbian and I want to get really personal; or, I want her to come clean about being gay while serving an administration that used all kinds of gayhating tactics to win an election?

Miracles that I would accept from the Late Pope John Paul II

To achieve sainthood, the Vatican needs to confirm a second posthumous miracle performed by JPII. The first miracle was curing an old nun of Parkinson's. Boring! This is what I'm talking about:
  • New job, riches, eternal happiness, etc.
  • Move 10 lbs accumulated over past year from thighs to breasts
  • Cure cancer, end famine, stop global warming, pollution, and overfishing
  • Give Amy Heckerling the inspiration to create another Clueless-caliber masterpiece
  • Bring John Kennedy Toole back from the dead to write a follow-up to A Confederacy of Dunces.
  • Make Sigerson Morrison redesign their closed-toe shoes so that they fit me.
There is still hope, JPII! Make a believer out of me.

Cream on the inside

Gucci Mane now looks like this (via):

I am familiar with the name Gucci Mane, but when I looked him up on Youtube, I realized I am not familiar with any of his songs. Lemonade? Worst Enemy?

Based on his tattoo and necklace, I assumed he was the guy behind this gem:

But that is Dorrough. What a name. I think that is the extended spelling of Homer Simpson's "Doh!"

Engagement on Ice

I think it is wasted energy and poor form to criticize a source of joy and happiness for others, but I may not be able to think of something less appealing than paying at least $200 to propose to someone in an ice rink, surrounded by tourists.

The gesture could be considered special and heartfelt if it weren't arranged by the box office and so commonplace that there is an online pdf brochure and application!

Preemptive Strike

I thought California had all the good propositions this year, but I totally underestimated the wackos in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Oklahoma, at the urging of Newt Gingrich, passed a "measure blocking judges from considering Islamic or international law when making a ruling." Note: read the comments on that post at your own risk.

Kansas, following the adage better safe than sorry, changed their state constitution to remind themselves that they have the right to bear arms.

Karl Rove must be proud!

Crazy Cat People

This sweet NYT essay defending cat ownership is a fun read, but the comments section refutes the author's thesis that cat people are not wackadoodles who should be tracked like sex offenders.

I haven't read all of the posts yet but this one jumped out as an early favorite (and, strengthens the case for Cherry):

You should never own just one cat. The need for same-species friendship is universal. My two cats never tire of playing or napping together, even though both were adoped separately as adults. They are named after two iconic Americans. My large and gangly orange tabby tom is named Duke after John Wayne. My elegant all-black female is named Condoleezza after a favorite political star and hopefully future President.

LAT hates smokers

If they didn't, they surely could have found a less heinous picture to accompany this article about the hazards of cigs. Is she a mail order bride from the former USSR?

MAKE IT LEGAL FOR ME TO CARRY A CONCEALED GUN THAT HAS BLANKS, AND MAKE IT LEGAL FOR ME TO SHOOT THOSE BLANKS AT THOSE WHO DISPLEASE ME.

This post is a little too sophomoric and rant-oriented for my taste but he does make a few good points. Even some points that are not 100% true are funny:

Life goals for female college graduates:

1) Get rich by doing as little work as humanly possible
2) Marry someone who will fertilize you with attractive babies
3) Own a home so spacious and tastefully appointed that all your friends feel like dogshit any time they enter it

Tastefully appointed! I like it.

Tear Town gets Urban

Intervention is the worst. I am not allowed to watch it (or Hoarders).

I like the Autotune version better.

Thanks to MG.

No Lesbians

Did you know that some college basketball teams have a No Lesbians policy? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
