Pour la Victoire 'Jaclyn' Distressed Leather Satchel

Do I want a bag that zips on top or is a flap closure acceptable?

Tomas Maier, get over yourself and send me something already.

Kim France on beauty products worth buying

This is a fine, short essay and thought-provoking slide show (e.g. is any shampoo worth $140 per bottle/jar?) from the former editor of Lucky magazine, detailing what beauty products she will spend money on now that she doesn't get them for free.

Biggest surprise: she espouses the efficacy of Givenchy Mister Light over YSL Touche Eclat!

Vintage Mens' Watch

I have decided I want a vintage mens' watch. Preferably round, gold face. I can be in charge of finding the right band.

I have been looking at this store's website; maybe one day I will go in. There is a lot out there on eBay but I am afraid of fakes and Meg Whitman.

Worst Trader Joe's parking lots

Blogging LA posted an item about the worst Trader Joe's parking lots. That is a an impossible ranking. The solution has no limit. They are all terrible, with the exception of Culver City and maybe the new one near my office at Vine and Selma.

Similarly, I would not fault anyone who commits manslaughter at a Whole Foods parking lot. Fairfax and 3rd, specifically.

Sidenote: terrific commenting in the Blogging LA item. Unions, domestic partnerships, transportation issues are all covered.

Do want. Do not want to look like Morticia Addams while wearing.

They said their J. Crew bathing suits last forever

One day I hope to be able to spend $410 on a bathing suit, but until then I will be paying under $15 a piece at H&M. I do not buy the argument in this NYT piece that selling bikinis as separates drives up the retail price by 20%.

The F'ing Grove

Another reason why I never park at the Grove's structure: people die there.

Leather shorts at Coachella

Are you kidding me, whowhatwear? Refinery29 is more reasonable, though no one wants to see me in another vest. I also like what they have to say about cute clothes for biking.

Also I am ready for some new sunglasses.

iPlahd

I have been reading a fair amount abotu the iPad because I want to be persuaded to like it.

Up to this point I believe that there are people who surely want it (Macfags and gadget early adopters) and peopel who surely don't (people who are irritated by Macfags and those who would rather spend money on food, drinks, clothes, etc.). I am waiting to see who is in the middle, and if anyone can be pulled from one group to another, and I haven't figured that out yet.

Here is a real fanboy piece with nice pics and an optimistic look at the creative future as guided by tablets (but I don't think this piece successfully argues that iPad is THE tablet for the job).

This is a piece about how the iPad will eradicate th eneed for any other kind of computer device.

Here is a more tech-oriented argument against the iPad, and moreover against Apple's DRM-heavy business model that encourages one to buy more, not create different.

I have a question about the way that the tablet is supposed to save print media: how? I thought the issue with print is that lots of advertising revenue has been lost, primarly in the classified pages, and papers, magazines, etc. cannot make up for that revenue with online ads. So how is the iPad supposed to help? By increasing the number of peopel who will subscribe? So that advertisers will pay a lot to get in front of their eyes? Or the subscription fees are supposed to make a difference?

Please, someone explain this part to me. Update on 4/9/10: Oh, iAd.

Sample Sale, victory and regrets

Thanks you to Sarah for forwarding me the Daily Candy e-mail with this gem inside:

Grabbed these for $80 (allegedly $385 retail)

Passed on this for $100 (allegedly $398 retail)
And now am furious with myself, even though I own too many party dresses (though not all of them fit me due to thigh expansion).

Related: Maybe that money would be better spent on a package at Swerve
